Installation

Installation of the hamster

First the archive must become in arbitrary catalogue entpackt. Meaningfully the catalogue should be empty by the installation very first. As a name presents itself "x:\hamster". Then you can start directly "hamster.exe". The required sublists u.ä. If hamster attaches by the first starting directly. If you should not see the hamster right away, then to double clicks you simply on the yellow rodent in the Tray-icon.

Updates can also be installed by simple Entpacken in the existing catalogue. INI-files o.ä. are not headed, because are not contained in the hamster's-archive.

Setup for the password of the administrator

It is required for the access to the news and E-mail-Reader to give away a password for the automatically invested user "admin".

One chooses this about the menu " file / attitudes(settings) / Local servers / user local users " from configure " the page(side) ". This page(side) contains a list with the names of all local users existing at the moment. Select the user "admin" and call the treatment dialogue about the badge "Treat" on. Then with "changing" on the top right you can fix the password and afterwards with OK you store the changes. Then in the list of the local users should on the right from "admin" instead of " {empty} " " {Set} " be to be seen.

Setup of the Newsreader

It is required for the access to the news server of the hamster to configure the Newsreader with the server name and the access data of the user, so that in future is accessed the hamster and not (more) on the external news server.

As a server name can be applied for a single place solution 127/0/0/1. This is the IP-address of the local computer. For most installations the name localhost can also be applied instead.

As an user's name or user's name is to be given(indicated) "admin". Admin in the hamster assigned password is to be given also with.

If all data were given correctly, now the news groups from the hamster can be taken over in the Newsreader. Normally the internal hamster's-group "internal.misc" should appear here at least already.

If before a normal server was put and is got the list of the news groups completely by the hamster, the list decreases to the plus subscribed in the hamster to the internal groups. Certainly, this is irritating at first sight, but technically completely correct. The hamster explains for the Client now the new server. As a server he places with it to the Client only the groups, in the Client to the accessible group list, to disposal which are covered by the hamster also, from the server accessible to him, tasächlich. If with the provider, e.g., 100 groups are available, the hamster 50 of it has subscribed, only these 50 groups are available to the Client.

Setup of E-mail-Readers

Analogously to the Newsreader the same access data are to be to put down in E-mail-Reader, 127/0/0/1 or localhost for the name of the mail server, "admin" for the user's name and the password assigned to this user. The assignment of the user's name and the password is required only for the server POP3. For the configuration of the SMTP-server the server name is sufficient.

One can send to the first testing the access E-mail to the local user "admin@hamster" - the mail should land temporarly as a text file in " <hamster> \mails\mail.out " be to be found and while fetching of new mails in the input file of the Mailclients.

The following addresses get on all as local addresses of the administrator:

Admin (i.e. without "" - addressing part)

Admin@hamster

Admin@localhost

Admin@127.0.0.1

Admin [127/0/0/1]

Admin@irgendetwas.invalid

All E-mails directed in these addresses are blocked admin immediately locally.
