Successful Blogging

At present I know my blog isn’t read my that many people, but I have set this up as a long term project, allowing me to hone things before it does get populer (well I can live in hope can’t I?).

Today whilst browsing I came across an interesting anti-spam blog Spam Huntress who is doing an incredible job of hunting down spammers, and commenting on their activities. It certainly makes an interesting read.

However my main reason for mentioning her blog is this little tidbit about Blog SEO which is an informative read and makes perfect sense to me!

I wish her well for her efforts.

Firefox locked out

originally written on 14th Feb 2005

Whilst doing a few searches for some accessible websites I came across this one:
English Heritage

In Internet Explorer the page displays as you would expect, but in Firefox, my current default browser, you get redirected to a so called’ accessible version. This staement is shown on the page:

You have been redirected to the accessible version of the site as you are using a browser that is not currently supported on the graphics site.

I’d prefer graphics myself! But not supporting browsers these days is ridiculous! Having the nerve to call it the accessible version is like taking the proverbial.

Update

Following an article on the BBC news site Websites alienate Firefox users I revisted the site. It appears that they have had a change of heart, and Firefox users can now access the full version of the site.

Give me all your money!

I’m sure a lot of us remember hearing this in the movies, though whether it was actually said or not is another matter.

But lets think about this, is it really the right phrase to use?

example:

Robber goes into a bank, with a gun, and says to the bank teller “Give me all your money”, the teller then starts handing out money from the bank…

But the money is not the teller’s, it is the banks money! So have they got it wrong? Shouldn’t the teller just empty their pockets instead?

Mac Mini joys and woes

Yes I am proud owner of a lunch box, affectionately known as a Mac Mini. This a fun thing to play with after being used to Windows on PCs for so long. The interface is smooth and user friendly, just as well because the learning curve is steep.

Large Text / Small Text

Often when browsing I come across sites that are accessible, or at least try to be. As an admin of GAWDS, I perhaps come across more than a few. What has struck me recently is the plethora of alternate ‘styles’ that sites can be viewed in these days, from simple colour changes, to whole new designs. But today I’ll concentrate on perhaps the most basic of these, the large text / small text options.
