A first for poker sites?

A lot of us no doubt get spam on our blogs. A large proportion probably get poker related spam. It makes a nice change to have someone actually email you to actually ask if they can be linked to! This has just happened on a site I help maintain. They will still be told no, but it was nice of them to ask!

Quirm.net updated.

I spent most of this afternoon, and a good part of this evening updating Quirm.net. Things might have gone a little quicker if WS_FTP had behaved itself and actually synchronised.

An updated design, which may change, an all new CMS with some interesting features. The site now includes my AccessKeysClass.php giving visitors the opportunity to set their own access keys.

The site will soon feature various articles and tutorials, as well as some new scripts for download.

Accessible and Usable Site Navigation

Is there a maximum number of links you should have on a single page? In theory you could have any number but after a certain amount the page will surely become too unwieldy.

I ask because I was recently discussing how to layout the menu of my CMS. Looking at the various tree menu systems’s I soon realised that they were all unusable in a system where any category can be a child of any other, and any ‘depth’ is possible. For example a sub sub sub sub sub category.

My ISP vs Google

Or at least I assume that is the problem!

Every so often I get the following whilst in the middle of extensive Google searching:

Error

We’re sorry…

… but we can’t process your request right now. A computer virus or spyware application is sending us automated requests, and it appears that your computer or network has been infected.

We’ll restore your access as quickly as possible, so try again soon. In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope we’ll see you again on Google.

Which is a great PITA. I am not pleased about this but what can you do, I some how don’t think that Google will do anything and I know for a fact that the tech support at my ISP will just go ‘Google don’t do that sort of thing, nothing we can do about it’.

Tis a bugger.

Access Keys – a user centered approach

Many developers who are aware of the WAI and checkpoint 9.5 ‘Provide keyboard shortcuts to important links’, have recently avoided the use of accesskeys due to inherent problems. John Foliot, along with Derek Featherstone, of Wats.ca have long been advocates of not using them because of this.

Following on from a recent discussion, Gez Lemon of Juicy Studio wrote a quick and dirty php script that would allow a user to set their own accesskeys for a site. He gave me permission to take that script and to hopefully turn it into a usable and functional set of scripts.
