Cygwin versus Darwin

Some time ago I obtained a Mac-Mini. Up until now I have rarely used it. Last week, however, I also upgraded my PC, and have now been brought kicking and screaming into the 21st centuy – it has WinXP on it!!!

Dealing with those uninvited sales people

We quite regularily get the door to door sales people knock at our door. I have recently started trying this phrase on them: “How much time would you like to waste before I say no“. Problem is that no-one seems to take me seriously!

I also started trying this on some of the myriad of phone calls we get, they don’t get the hint either.

BBC iMP trial part 4

Following on from part 3, after having run the medi player yesterday it looks like it was re-added to my startup list. *sigh*

With any luck they will actually ask for feedback on the player, as well as its usage so that I can give them a clue.

BBC iMP trial part 3

Today I thought I’d check if more programmes were being added to the download list. There wasn’t, still the same limited selection. However, without my knowledge, a download began! This appears to be a standard trailer, but why they set it to download automatically without user confirmation is anyones guess.

Could this piece of software be considered spyware I wonder? Obviously the BBC are gathering data from the usage of the software so it is a strong possibility.

Differently Abled

On watching a programme on BBC2 the other night it was interesting to hear what people with disabilities had to say. Someone who had lost part of, if not all of, one arm had been fitted with a claw in place of his hand. He asked the question “how many of you can pick up an egg from boiling water” (or something similar).

He pointed out that he wasn’t disabled he was Differently Abled. I think this is a great phrase and will do my best to utilise it.

Though of course the Disability Discrimination Act would then become shortened to DADA.
